Some say it’s 2012, some say it Tectonic Plates. Either way, those living in the Ring of Fire have not had an easy time of it lately. So we here at AleWerks are auctioning off this:

It’s awesome, guys.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

You can either come into the store and place your bid, or directly email Miss El (Missel@williamsburgalewerks.com, or find me under “Staff” on the website,) with your name, email, a phone number, and your bid.

Miss El will do her utmost to make sure the bids are kept super-accurate and up-to-date via facebook, which she can update the quickest.

Bidding will be open from March 12 through March 19. So Saturday to Saturday.

We will ship the gift basket to the winner, or to an address of the winner’s request. (The T-shirt is available in all sizes, and we’ll happily switch it out for you.)

Everything is totally anonymous. Only Miss El will know anything, and that’s so she can make sure the winner get’s their epically awesome gift basket.

*

The proceeds will go entirely to the Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund.

*

Once the winner has, erm, won, Miss El will email/call you to let you know (hooray!) and will provide you with a link to our paypal account, and we’ll then send you the confirmation of our donation. Or, if you prefer, you can donate directly to the Red Cross and send us your confirmation receipt. As much as we trust you guys, we’ll be shipping after we receive the confirmation. (Sorry!)

If you’re in the store, and have a few extra bucks, we also have a donation place set up for that.

Look who’s here! That’s right, folks, Amber’s finally broken out of the brewery and has taken up residence in the store! She’s draft only, and here for a limited time, so be sure to stop in! In the words of our Brewer himself:

“With a nose full of bourbon, vanilla, oak, and a blast of American hops, this beer is sure to excite the tastebuds. Amber is an IPA we aged in Virginia Gentlemen Bourbon Barrels for six months. The result is a balanced beer with flavors of bourbon, malt, hops, and oak. While no one quality dominates this ale, the bourbon definitely gets your attention.”

Personally, I was going to just say, “It’s like a punch of flavor to the face!” but that is apparently frowned upon in most circles. Admittedly, social graces have never really been my forte. Let’s all just be glad I can chew with my mouth closed, okay?

In what we like to call Other News, we’ve sold off the barrels Amber and other masterpieces have been created in…but do not fear: we’ve got more in. Lots more. LOADS.

Okay, so you can't see the barrels that well in this picture, but there are loads being unloaded. LOADS.

It was left up to me to take photos of this Historic Event. So I went out, camera in hand, ready to take more photos than a down on his luck paparazzi who just spotted Angelina Jolie playing a game of snooker with Batman.

But then I got distracted and started taking pictures of birds. (They were awesome. I named this one Pearl. She enjoys breadcrumbs, left-over mash, and long walks on the beach with Best of Queen playing lightly in the background.)

Then the guys noticed I was busy making up the romantic histories of seagulls while they were busy pulling very heavy barrels off of a truck. I was told to return to my job or I’d be set on fire.

Fine.

Okay, they didn’t actually threaten to set me on fire, but the looks they were giving me certainly spoke volumes. It’s amazing how combustible non-verbal communication can be.

This was supposed to be about beer or something, right? Oh well. Anyway, I’m thinking about moving this blog over to blogspot, which I believe would do two very awesome things: the first being that I won’t have to go through over 70 spam messages/comments a day (though I do appreciates the helpful dating tips they give me,) and even more than that, the ability to double-space when I feel as though it would make reading easier on the eyes. (Why won’t it let me double space? WHY?!?)

Also, (see, I just wanted a double-space there. ARGH!) blogspot would make us a lot more accessible to the general public, and it would give me opportunities to do neat things. Like, I dunno, change the layout to something that doesn’t make my teeth itch.

Thoughts? Comments? If I get zero comments, I’m going to assume that means, “Yes, El, you are both correct and not at all insane. We completely agree with you and the people who feed you the medication you are on.”

Cheers!

Miss El

(DOUBLE SPACE! THATS ALL I ASK!)

The New Year is upon us, and as a special treat, we’ve decided to share with you the resolutions we here at AleWerks have set for ourselves. Think of it as a bit of a Get to Know Us, through the goals we set ourselves.

—

Chuck (Captain, Commander, and Boss-Man):

1. Get the boat back in the water.

—

Geoff (Captain of the Starship Enterbrewery)

1. “…”

—

Miss El (Empress of the Store):

1. Stop thinking out loud, especially when referring to self as “Empress”.

2. Find a way to incorporate more dinosaurs into AleWerks. Or Thor. I like Thor, too.

3. Avoid replacing my toes with grapes.

—

Joe (The Man)

1. No more train-wrecks in the brewery.

2. “I don’t have silly resolutions.”

—

Anna (Store Minion and Facebook Queen)

1. Grow a prehensile tail to help with Minion duties.

2. Convince the inhabitants of a remote desert island that I am their god.

3. Invent a new letter of the alphabet.

4. Build a TARDIS.

—

Erik (Chemist)

1. Find and tame the Brewery Hawk. (Who needs a cat?)

2. Take up falconry lessons.

—

Lisa ( Self Proclaimed and Other Proclaimed She-Witch)

1. To eat no more Christmas cookies until December 2011.

—

If you have an excellent resolution, share it with us! We want to hear from everybody! And as always, be safe this holiday and best wishes for the New Year.

Cheers!

Even as I type to you, I am sipping on one of the first pulls of our famous (infamous?) CoffeeHouse Stout. Yes, it’s here, and it’s in the store for you to buy and enjoy. It’s smooth and warming and just perfect for this time of year.

We’ve already sold our first batch…so that means what’s in the store right now is all we’re going to have until the next is brewed. Now normally I’d be all for starting some sort of Fight Club in the store where the winner gets a case, but I suppose it is the season…so instead you can just come on in and I’ll sell it to ya.

Be quick! Like little Beer Bunnies!

As the time to get the bells a’jingling, I thought I’d bring for you all some excellent recommendations for your drinking this season.

Coffeehouse Stout is done brewing and will be bottled within the next week. It’s a winter warmer that’s sure to keep you cozy by the fireside this season. I know everyone’s been waiting for ages for this to come back, so let me promise you this: you won’t be disappointed.

Grand Illumination 2010. Do I need to say more? You know, I think I do. This brew is absolutely fantastic, and has set the bar just a little bit higher all over again. Did I mention that Geoff hand-picked out some brand new brandy snifter glasses (tastefully etched with the AleWerks logo,) to enjoy this fine drink with? He did. Just so you know. Bring in the new year using this instead of some poncy champagne. You’ll be the coolest person at the party: Grand Illumination will say that you’re classy enough to know an excellent barely wine, but fun enough to have beer. Everyone will want to be friends with you!

As for the brewery itself, changes are afoot. And naturally, they’re all for the better. The new brite tank is making us all proud, and we’ve just been given the go-ahead to purchase a brand new fermenter. We’re under construction to make everything better, and it’s all quite exciting. Stop in for a tour and maybe you’ll get to see some of the fun happening.

We here at AleWerks would like to thank every one of our loyal drinkers: it’s thanks to you that we’re doing so splendidly. Geoff is gleefully experimenting with all sorts of new brews, which you can look forward to seeing in the new year, and they are all of them promising to be nothing short of superb. (But luckily, we know that’s what will always come out of this brewery.) Our dear, loyal patrons, in hats go off to you for your wonderful support throughout the year. We’re going to thank you in the only way we know how: to continue to produce liquid excellence for your consumption.

Stop on in and see us. You’ll always be greeted with a smile, and possibly even BD, our newest canine friend. (He can smell Geoff cooking from miles off.) Something is always happening here at our little brewery, and we encourage everyone to come on in and join in the laughter.

Cheers!

-Miss El

Williamsburg AleWerks can be an exciting place. We are just full of adventure and mystery. And leprechauns. (The leprechauns being generally responsible for most of the adventures.) We’re not always sure why things happen (like the time we were certain our Brewer caught fire,) but mystery is part of the fun.

Pictured: Mystery. Though, to be fair, this is a fairly common occurrance here.

But sometimes, something really neat happens.

We were exploring the underground catacombs that we keep here at AleWerks and discovered a cache of our summer White Ale.

We have literally a lot of these throughout our facility. Literally. There's a brewjack still lost down there somewhere.

What else could we do but decide to share the wealth? And cheaply? We weren’t sure either (or we were just too lazy to think of anything,) and so if you come by the store, you can pick up a case of White for only $25. Or $8.00 a 6-pack.

It’s still unseasonably warm, so be sure to stop in and pick up a sixer to cool off with. Especially if you’re from the north like me and walk outside in your parka only to realize its practically still June here.

Be sure to look out for some more updates with our Grand Illumination and CoffeeHouse Stout!

Cheers,

Is that all I need to say? Ah, better remind everyone that this is our final batch of pumpkin for the year, and there is a limit of 2 cases per customer. No reservations. If you want some, come on in and pick it up now before it’s too late.

yet another brew is born.
With heavy hand the hop therego

And when the fortnight comes to pass
